Philippines Travel Guide This is the only guide you need to buy when you are planning a trip to the Philippines. The author is the same person who wrote the first 6 editions of Lonely Planet Philippines, which used to be the best guide on the Philippines, but if you are like so many people who are disillusioned by the 7th edition, buy this book. The book is well researched and not as biased as other guide books. |

Burning Heart: A Portrait of the Philippines This is a beautiful collection of photographs. They speak about the lives of people we hardly see in pictorial collections about the Philippines. The faces of the people are real and desperate. I am reading Bino Realuyo's Umbrella country (which I love) and these pictures almost bring to life the images in the novel. I recommend this book (and realuyo's novel too). |
Moon Handbooks: Philipipines 3rd Edition I found this book unbeatable for its in depth coverage of the country! It covers every single province (out of ca. 80) making sure that no remote corner of the country is overlooked. The emphasis on regional clutures / ethnic groups was particularly interesting to me. |

Insight Guides Philippines One of over 400 titles in the Insight series, local writers convey the insider's perspective on how to get the most out of your trip. The photojournalistic approach captures the uniqueness of each culture and location. |
Traveler's Companion Philippines, 2nd The Philippines tourism bureau should distribute free copies of this book, because it really does a good job of showing off the country in all its glory. I recently spent a lot of time looking at various travel books to research a trip to Palawan/El Nido, and this was the only book that I felt covered the topic adequately. Besides the great text, the book is packed with beautiful pictures! |
